Danbury Mint flexes its Muscles (again)...

Saturday, 16 May 2009 11:44 by Peter

I don't collect muscle cars personally, but I know there are a lot of guys out there who do. And if you're one of them, you're sure to be excited about a couple of 40th anniversary repaints expected from DM shortly. I hope they chose some good colors, but we'll have to wait a bit to find out. Meanwhile, if you're feeling lucky and don't want to wait, here are the order numbers:

1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible 8932-0022

1969 Chevrolet Corvette convertible 8932-0030

Boatload of FM Limited Editions Announced - Mostly Muscle & Repaints

Friday, 15 May 2009 11:38 by Peter
This 59 Corvette Barn Find Diorama is a nifty surprise from FM. What's not so surprising is that virtually everything else is a straight repaint of a previously released model, mostly muscle cars. To see them all, just click on the picture above.

Just in case you missed it, another slam-dunk from the Danbury Mint

Wednesday, 13 May 2009 13:45 by Peter
When I first reported on the DM 59 Impala LE Coupe back in March, I noted that the standard issue 59 Impala convertible was not available, and predicted that DM would release a 50th anniversary convertible this year in another color. Well, thanks to my friend Tony's great photography over at the Zone, here it is in all its glory, and it looks like a sure-fire winner. Painted in silver with a black top and red interior, this model is an instant classic. Too bad I already own the beautiful turquoise version, because I avoid duplicates whenever possible.

Upcoming Models from the Danbury Mint for 2009

Saturday, 9 May 2009 11:59 by Peter

It’s been a quiet year for new model announcements, but don’t be lulled into a false sense of security. Danbury is about to unleash a bevy of repaints, re-toolings, and from what I hear, a nice surprise or two before the year is out.

Here at DR, we love it when we get some hot news to share with our readers, but recently it has been brought to our attention that some of our news items have been posted on other boards without any attribution. Please remember that in accordance with our Terms of Use, you are welcome to post our content elsewhere, but you must attribute the material to DiecastRamblings.com

Now, without further delay, the moment you’ve been waiting for: One of the ’69 muscle cars our friend Aaron hinted at, Danbury plans to announce a repainted 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 this year for its 40th anniversary. Also in the pipeline is a retool of their venerable 1958 Fury into a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere hardtop, though personally I’d prefer they’d done it as a convertible. While the colors, trim, etc. for these models are not yet known, here are a couple of 1:1 images to whet your appetite; just click on the thumbnail to see the full-size image.

I hear there are a couple of exciting new tools due out this year as well, but that’s all I know at this point. Will share more particulars with you as they become available…

DR Exclusive! Danbury Mint to release 49 Oldsmobile Woody Wagon

Sunday, 3 May 2009 11:53 by Peter
When I heard about this wagon, my first reaction was "too bad they didn't make a fastback coupe" (my favorite body style) instead of yet another woody. But that's just me. I'm sure many folks will be surprised and delighted with this choice. The color is as yet unknown, though it almost certainly won't be green as pictured above, since they did the 88 coupe in this color. Remember, you heard it here first!
